What it’s like to work at CA as a Digital Demand Strategist
When searching for a role or starting your career in the tech industry, you’ll typically find bulleted information on a company’s job description, benefits and culture. We want to go a step beyond and give you insight from a real CA employee. This profile of one of our Digital Demand Strategists is part of our careers blog series “A Day in The Life At CA”.
Steve Tait is a Digital Demand Strategist located in the CA Vancouver office. He came to CA Technologies in 2013 through its acquisition of Layer 7, where he had worked for two years. He just celebrated his five-year CA anniversary in June.
At Layer 7, Steve ran the Digital Demand Generation side of the Marketing department, and when he first came to CA he worked across business units helping to execute on digital campaigns through our digital agency. He then moved to the Marketing Operations team and worked on executing CA’s global search campaigns across business units and regions.
Now, Steve has come full circle back to API Management, working within CA’s Digital Demand Center running the global digital demand strategy.
“My job is to create digital marketing campaigns that create leads for sales to generate pipeline. I target potential customers through online marketing tactics like search engine marketing, social media and display,” said Steve.
Outside of work, Steve’s main focus is spending time with his family.
“I have two young children, Noah and Stella, who are the light of my life. I coach both of them in hockey – a perfect day for me is spending the day at the rink watching both of them on the ice.
“I have an awesome wife and we love traveling to her home country, Germany, when we get the chance. I love spending time with our German side of the family and enjoying the German culture when we’re there.”
An average day at work
A typical day at work for Steve involves a lot of time on calls with his team, which is spread throughout North America, including Boston and New York.
“The rest of my time is spent managing the digital campaigns from my desk in Vancouver. I generally eat lunch at my desk on the fly – a lot of the folks I work with are on the east coast so often I’ve got meetings scheduled over lunch. And I do work from home a couple of times a week as well. My job is pretty exciting, never boring.”
The best part of the job
Steve says the best part of his job is working with so many extraordinary, smart and talented people on a day-to-day basis.
He also enjoys the Vancouver office. “It’s located right in the heart of Vancouver so there are lots of options for lunch, with food trucks all around, cafés, restaurants and bars. Transit options are good as well for commuting into the office. The trains and buses are within walking distance from the office,” he said.
Many people who are new to the tech industry may not know CA Technologies. We asked Steve what advice he would have for them about them about choosing to work for a lesser-known B2B technology company, rather than a better-known brand.
“The main thing to think about when joining the tech industry and working for CA is, it may be a lesser-known tech company, but we’re still one of the largest global Enterprise Software companies. Working for a company that’s a leader in the application economy, a company whose products are truly driving Digital Transformation on a global scale, is something to be very proud of.”
